We asked Fixx athlete, Dan Garles, a few questions about his CrossFit journey…
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
“I used to do regular gym workouts and run a lot. I was getting pretty burned out on coming up with my own workouts and had started looking at CrossFit.com. Around that same time my daughter started competitive cheer, and there was a CrossFit gym next door. Since I was next door everyday I thought I would checkout the gym. I dropped in for a week and loved it, and have been doing CrossFit pretty much every day since.”
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
“It was difficult and still is! I love that aspect though, having to push yourself every time you’re in the gym.”
What was your first “bright spot”? (Positive moment)
“I had actually done a lot of Olympic lifting, but very little gymnastic work. I could do like 2 strict pull-ups when I started 2 years ago. Stringing together a bunch of kipping pull-ups after a couple of months was awesome.”
What are you working on now?
“Everything! But I am focused on butterfly pull-ups to get my Fran time down. I would also like to get my back squat to 400 lbs. That was a goal I had before Covid and was getting pretty close before taking 4 months away from the gym.”
What is your favorite FIXX memory?
“Doing my first Murph with my 10 year old daughter Natalie.”
Do you have a favorite movement? Favorite WOD?
“Anything rowing or wall balls!”
