We asked Fixx athlete, Evan Cione, a few questions about his CrossFit journey..
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
“I didn’t really have much of a choice. Dan Manka opened the gym and told me I had to be there at 5 am on the first day they were opened, and reminded me at 10pm the night before while we were drinking. Hartman, Jimmy and I were there on the first day and I’ve never looked back, or wanted to quit! It has put me in the best shape of my life at 41 years old.”
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
“First impression had to do mostly with being so sore that I couldn’t move much. Tons of foam rolling, lacrosse balls, and fish oils got me through. Now I still feel sore but it doesn’t last, and that’s how I know the WOD really pushed me.”
What was your first “bright spot”? (Positive moment)
“My first bright spot was finally beating Jimmy in a WOD, it was literally my goal on the whiteboard for almost a year, and he was a beast. It was also the same day I realized that handstand push-ups were still in my game.”
What are you working on now?
“I am working on mixing heavy weight days with speed days. Focusing on form has always been important to me, but more now than ever, I want to avoid bad form to stay away from any injuries. I am going six days per week and plan on keeping that going for a long time.”
What is your favorite FIXX memory?
“I have had more memories with this degenerate 5 am crew than I can list. I have had gym memberships my whole life but never have developed the friendships like I have with this crew, the sick sense of humor really pulls us together, and pushing each other physically doesn’t hurt either.“
