We asked Fixx member, Kevin Gillooly, a few questions about his CrossFit journey…
What brought you to Bootcamp in the first place?
“Several factors brought me to Boot camp. But my overall desire to simply feel better, while
trying to mend carefully after recent joint replacement surgery were the paramount reasons
behind joining CrossFit Fixx.”
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
“My overall first impression was the welcoming nature of the staff. There is also a general sense
of community most days with a touch of esprit de corps with the other participants that attend
the same classes that I frequent.”
What was your first “bright spot”? (Positive moment)
“My most positive moment since joining has been the recent confirmation that my joint
replacement has been medically successful. The work I’ve put into on the Concept2 rowing
machine, coupled with the careful use of alternate types of exercises or workarounds, all
suggested by staff, have made me more confident. Maintaining my mobility is central to living
better.”
What are you working on now?
“It’s all about maintaining an on-going flow of sorts for me going forward. Motion is lotion some
say. Just keeping myself moving while at class is frankly my daily goal while at class.”
What is your favorite FIXX memory?
“My favorite memory was the exhilaration of completing a really long row regiment with Anna
and Ruth. I was drenched in perspiration and the release of those endorphins made it all the
more worthwhile. Then Curtis, while subbing for Heiselle one day, made a day memorable once
when he encouraged us to ‘run’ all over the back lot while carrying a cold hunk of steel
(cowbell).”
Do you have a favorite movement? Favorite style of workout?
“I’m open to the infinite number of exercise sets or routines that can be done on the Concept2 rowing machine. It never gets boring.”
