We asked Fixx athlete Linda Weiler a few questions about her CrossFit journey..
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
“I was looking around for a gym to join and stumbled upon a Groupon deal for Crossfit Fixx, so I thought I would give it a try. My son was joining the Marines and I thought while he was in bootcamp and suffering physically, I would do the same. That was in 2015. So I have continued enjoying the challenge at the gym and have remained a member since January 2015.”
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
“I kept it a secret from others that I was going to a CF gym because I had heard such negative feedback from people saying that injuries happen to those who CF. My kids made fun of me going to a CF gym but in time they all joined me at Crossfit Fixx! I feel that the coaches at this gym are so in tune with safety and never push anyone to the point of possible injury. Every workout has a scaled option to fit ALL fitness levels.”
What was your first “bright spot”? (Positive moment)
“My ‘bright spot’ was a few years ago when Christine W. asked me to do a CF competition with her as a 2-person team. I was scared to death but thought I would give it a try. It was amazing watching people from all over Tucson join this competition, and happy to say we represented CrossfitFixx well along with our other gym members.”
What are you working on now?
“Currently I am working on double unders. Just got another rope in hopes this will assist me…??? I also am working on my technique and not worrying about lifting heavy weights. EVERY workout creates a good challenge and I have never walked away thinking that I didn’t get a good workout in for that day.”
What is your favorite FIXX memory?
“My favorite memories at CFFixx are having my granddaughter Rooni practically grow up at this gym (strapped into her stroller and watching the action happen), having my step daughter Heather join me at the gym (Kept me going during the early days of the pandemic), and having my daughter Brittani and her husband Jack also join me at this gym. Their 2nd child is named Murphy : ) There was some good family bonding time!!”
Do you have a favorite movement? Favorite WOD?
“Everyone thinks I like to run, but the reality is I only run when I am told I have to run. My high school running days are over but I think my coaches from high school would be proud to see I occasionally do still run…..but only at the gym! I like doing WODs when several movements are involved. I like the all over body workout and have become accustomed to perpetually feeling sore even years into this fitness regimen. I wouldn’t feel right if I wasn’t sore – we pay for this feeling!!”
