We asked Fixx athlete, Mason Brady, a few questions about his CrossFit journey…
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
“I started CrossFit due to my parents’ involvement in it; through their participation I soon followed.”
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
“First impressions? I honestly can’t really remember. I started CrossFit over five years ago and have stuck with it ever since. My first impressions had to have been good, otherwise I likely wouldn’t have stuck with it.”
What was your first “bright spot”? (Positive moment)
“One of my earliest achievements I can remember is completing a “12 days of Christmas” WOD. I don’t necessarily know why it’s stuck with me, maybe it was the length of the WOD, or the challenge that it brought me when I was first beginning, but it had left quite an impression on me.”
What are you working on now?
“I know it’s rather vague but it’s true: everything can be improved, and that’s what I’m focused on. Small improvements over a wide range of movements; to make me a better athlete overall.”
What is your favorite FIXX memory?
“Easily, some of my favorite memories at the gym have been during the open. I vividly remember 18.2, where I PRed on my clean during the second part of the work out. Of all the times to set a new max, the end of an open WOD is rather atypical; making this memory even more enjoyable.”
Do you have a favorite movement? Favorite WOD?
“I really enjoy any type of clean. There’s very few movements that mix both strength and an emphasis on technique to the degree that the clean requires. There’s an immense sense of perceived strength upon completion of a heavy clean that no other lift can rival in my eyes.”
