CrossFit FIXX Member Highlight – Erik Dale!

We asked Fixx athlete Erik Dale a few questions about his CrossFit journey..

What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?

“I’ve always been motivated to stay fit and be active.  I worked out in the gym at Raytheon for a long time, but then I moved to a different site where there was no gym.  I set up a home gym in a spare bedroom and got my lift on by myself at 5 AM for about 2 years.  That became redundant and boring.  I also began developing injuries from doing the same type of workouts.  I was really strong but inflexible and that type of training wasn’t helping with athleticism.   A buddy of mine recommended I try FIXX, and the rest is history.”

What was your first impression of CrossFit? How has that changed?

“My first impression was good.  They gym was run well, the people were great (hilarious 5 AM crew), and I was instantly challenged.  I’ve been learning and working on movements from day 1 and I see improvements every week.”

What was your first “bright spot”? (Positive moment)

“Bright spot early on was improving my Olympic lifts and front squats.   I’m always trying to go super heavy, but coach Tawnya helped me focus on form first.  I’d be dead if it weren’t for her ..   “that sucked, shake that one off and sit down before your next attempt”    Once I was trying to front-squat all sorts of weight.  She showed me how to stretch my arms and shoulders and the next thing I knew I squatted 20 pounds more than my attempt.”

What are you working on now?

“Double-unders, muscle-ups, and heavy base lifts.”

What is your favorite FIXX memory?

“My favorite FIXX memories are always the games.  Hanging out on Friday nights with the whole crew and beers is second to none.”

Do you have a favorite movement? Favorite WOD?

“Favorite WOD is Grace.  Simple and powerful.  Maybe my youngest daughters middle name came from that WOD?”
